This same method works well for old fashioned hash if you have some leftover pot roast or beef stew. Simply chop up meat with the potatoes and onion. Add liquid and bake or cook in a skillet.

I like kitchen tools that I do not have to plug in to an electrical outlet. I like tools that are simple to use and simple to clean. I do not reject all electric kitchen tools. For example, I use an electric mixer instead of an old-fashioned egg beater. But I still use an old chopping bowl. I started out with leftover cooked potatoes. I wanted to chop them into small pieces and combine them with onion, parsley and cheese. I peeled two potatoes and put them in the bowl with half an onion, and some parsley. Then I chopped them up. Later I decided to add some cheddar cheese. I added the cheese, chopped it, and mixed it all together. After that, I transferred the vegetables to a metal bowl and added some liquid, in this case an egg mixed with a little milk. I then baked it in a moderate oven in a shallow baking pan for about half an hour.
