Lettuce
Lettuce can be planted outdoors early in spring. It can tolerate frost. This is a bib lettuce with smooth, tender leaves. It will form a head if you thin it to one stem. I thin it by cutting out the smaller stems and using those leaves in an early spring salad. For more, see my gardening posts.
Parsley
This established parsley plant is ready to be used. When buying parsley plants you have a choice between curly parsley or plain leaf parsley. The plain leaf is also known as Italian parsley. I prefer the plain leaf because it is easier to wash and the flavor is similar. For more, see my gardening posts.
Lemon Balm
Lemon balm is a perennial herb with a strong lemon flavor and scent. I sometimes use it as a substitute for lemon zest. As a garden plant it tolerates a wide variety of conditions. It is a large plant that can grow 2-3 feet high. For more, see my gardening posts.
